excellent detail, you never see dirt roads that color here, ours our black. The soild looks soft in your shot, is it easy to work? Would you have this type of soil in your gardens? I am really taken with the colors here, really a great shot.

Most unsealed roads in Australia are red, but not all are sandy such as this one.

No, I don't have this soil in my garden now, but I did when I lived closer to the coast of WA. You had to choose carefully what plants you grew as there wasn't much goodness in it. The only reason I had a lovely garden there was because I fed the plants well with blood and bone, three times a year and we had a bore and I could use the water from two streams that crossed under our property.

We have a clay soil in the garden we have now and the plants we grow here are different again.

Shuk is right...that soil looks like the soil you would find in the province of Prince Edward Island...right now I have clay soil and when I plant the garden I add lots of three way topsoil, manure, loam and peatmoss....oh the trials of a gardener! Great picture! Love the lines of the tractors wheels in the pic!:clap:

How interesting, thanks for sharing. It always intrgues me how people garden in different climates, soil conditions, etc. I find it fascinating that a determined gardener always finds something that will grow...lol

Thank you very much. Yes, going from a garden with sand to a garden with clay, was a great challange :D

In Australia we are encouraged to grow the native plants that grow in our district. These plants have already proved that the can exist in our weather conditions and need only the water that nature supplies. As my garden covers 1 1/3 acre, I couldn't possibly water it all, just a small flowerbed in the front of the house and the veggie patch.
