What a beautiful flower this is!!! I love the lighting of this photo! Do they grow in your garden? :sing:

Oh how I wish these orchids did grow in our garden. The only orchids we have in pots are what my husband rescued from a bush block that they are going to build houses on. He has to have a licence to do this as it is against the law to pick or dig up wildflowers in Australia. He does volunteer work for Conservation And Land Management in the rare flora program.

It's good there is a law for that! But he can see them and take pictures of them!!! :sing:

Again, can't wait to draw this! I went with a guy a few years ago to a spot where he'd found these (or one of the bearded greenhoods, anyway), but there were none there. As you can tell, in Vic we call them Bearded Greenhoods. Are they common or uncommon there? Your husband is a good photographer

That one really looks like a bird. Amazing pic

I can still remember the time I first saw a bird orchid growing in a little rocky crevice at the top of a waterfall. I couldn't believe that a flower could really look like that. Australia has some amazing flora.
:iconpoupsdream:
You bet for the flora

It would be the ideal country for Poup

The bird orchids seem to be a rather solitary species so we don't come across them very often. We have 9 different bird orchids growing in WA.
The Bearded Bird Orchid has only been found in the coastal area west of Albany.
The Late Bird Orchid can be found between Albany and Busselton.
The Boyup Bird Orchid can be found in several places, Boyup Brook, near Augusta and Tenterden.
The Esperance Bird Orchid is the most common bird orchid in the Esperance region.
The Plumed Bird Orchid is also confined to the Esperance - Israelite Bay region.
The Dwarf Bird Orchid is distribured throughout the Wheatbelt from Northhampton to Esperance.
The Bird Orchid ic common in the Darling Range near Perth.
The Bloated Bird Orchid can be found between Augusta and Mount Barker.
The Long-beaked Bird Orchid is confined to the extrem south coast between Albany and Windy Harbour.
